This ongoing class which meets 2 times a week will help prepare your struggling reader and speller for second grade. This class focuses on the vowel teams, complex consonants and word endings with phonemic awareness exercises and explicit phonics training.

Our small group sessions will accelerate your learner's reading progress with phonemic awareness exercises and explicit phonics training. The lessons are kept short with a variety of activities to keep your learner engaged and moving forward. This class focuses on words with vowel teams(like ea, ay, ai, ey), complex consonants(like -tch, kn) and endings (like -ed, -le). Students will improve their reading and spelling ability of words with advanced phonics skills.
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and 16 years of experience teaching a variety of ages and subjects, including reading and writing. I have completed the Reading Simplified Academy Training provided by Reading Simplified.com.
Homework Offered
Children succeed faster with reading when they get their eyes on more printed words. Each week the learners will be given a new guided reading text to print out. They will need to practice reading the printout aloud to a parent during the week. Along with the guided reading text the parents will need to read aloud a story to their child. An online activity to support the phonics covered in class may also be assigned. This homework will only take about 15 minutes each day.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
