Class Experience

*All Railroad Game Design courses will focus on VISUAL DESIGN and PROBLEM-SOLVING; there will be NO CODING or programming involved. Level 1 is a BEGINNER-FRIENDLY course and learners do not need any design or coding knowledge to take this class 🤗. For the latter portion of class, we will use Whiteboard.fi [free digital learning tool, with no email/login requirement] to create our game level layouts*

In this level 1 course, students will be introduced to tile-based game design. We will start by learning basic terms and concepts of video game design. After that, students will complete a digital art activity. Then, students will be directed to the Whiteboard.fi class, where they will get to design their own tile-based game layouts. For this first course, learners will complete 2-3 beginner challenges. They will link train tracks together by clicking and dragging digital tiles within a grid. The goal of our Railroad game will be to strategically arrange railroad tiles so our train can successfully get across from start to finish. Lastly, we will share and test the railroad tracks that learners customize. Students will receive friendly and constructive feedback on their builds.

Hello there and welcome! My name is Ms. Sarah. 🙋🏻‍♀️

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design. Also, I have 5+ years of experience working with children (ages 3-11) in both academic and recreational settings. I have worked as an Instructional Aide, After School Instructor, Science Camp Teacher, and Sunday School Teacher Assistant.

My biggest goal, as an educator, is to support children/students in their academic, social-emotional, and character development. No matter what the subject/topic at hand, it is my aim to engage learners in fun and meaningful lessons! Through the use of various teaching methods (visuals, games, body movement, discussions, etc.), I hope that students get to enjoy learning during our time together. 🤗

Some of the subjects that you may see me teach include: art, science, technology, life skills, 1st-2nd grade (math and ELA) supplemental lessons, etc. I am looking forward to planning and delivering helpful and interesting lessons for Outschool learners! 🤓😎

Outside of teaching on Outschool, some hobbies/activities I enjoy in my spare time include: gardening, photography, cooking, playing with my cats, etc.
