Puppet Time!

Led by a puppeteer and a few of her signature puppets, we gather with our puppets, stuffed animal friends, cars, and dolls for conversation, crafting, and stories. Be part of the adventure -- learners guide the activities from week to week!

Class Experience

In this ongoing course, we will gather weekly to play together, create together and, of course, a bit of puppetry! Some weeks will involve a puppet craft using common art materials (we have a crafty crew!). I'll definitely be bringing my puppets -- and you are invited to bring YOUR puppets, stuffed animals, favorite toys, and dolls to join the fun, too. Each week will be slightly varied and will feature a plan that is selected the previous week by our learners.

Art and SEL (social emotional learning) naturally intersect in the world of storytelling. Sharing in stories is a great way to develop vocabulary and language skills, too! Some weeks we will also have a craft activity that can be completed with some assistance from an adult. No previous experience or knowledge is needed. If you have suggestions for favorite stories or well-loved animals, please let me know. I take direction from learners to guide choices each week -- I love to be inspired by learners and their families!

What to expect:
We will begin each week with a welcome song followed by a grab-bag of conversation, stories, show-and-tell, crafts, and puppets. We close with a special song that learners LOVE to help sing and act out. Conversation and craft each week is often centered on animals around the world with animals chosen by the learners for the following weeks. Participation will be gently encouraged but never pushed.

Parental Guidance
Let me know if this is your child's first ever encounter with puppets -- it is important to know so I can craft a fun experience for all participants.
Supply List
Some art supplies will be needed for weeks with crafting. These include construction paper, paper tubes (recycled is great!), markers/crayons, scissors, and glue sticks.

I have been performing puppet shows and sharing stories professionally (and as a parent) for over twenty years. Character voices are something I truly enjoy adding to stories to bring them to life. I love how puppets encourage engagement in a natural way and how they can bring another dimension to a story. As a touring puppetry artist, I have worked with all ages and firmly believe in meeting children where they are.
