Project Based Montessori Math-Elementary Three

-This class will utilize a combination of Montessori materials and engaging, hands-on crafts. Each week, in session one we will be introduced to a new concept with Montessori materials, and given the opportunity to practice it. Then we will apply our new knowledge to a hands on activity or craft. Time permitting, we will review concepts that need to be solidified,  and discuss any questions that have come up. 

-Students should be comfortable with multiplying at least two digit numbers, division with large numbers, subtraction, addition and have  a good knowledge of shapes and sides prior to enrolling in this class. 

- Montessori Material suggestions will be posted in the classroom. You can utilize purchased materials, a DIY or digital materials. Links  for digital materials will be provided when applicable. 

-Homework can be provided for those who wish to explore further, however it will not be a requirement of the course. 

- The supply list for this course will be posted in the classroom.

Week Four: Formulas for Area-Rectangles
Session one: Calculate the surface area of your skin using newspaper


Week Five: Formulas for Area-Circle
Session one: Cookie circumference


Week Six: Formulas for Area-circle
Session one: Make a pie as we learn about pi


Week Seven: Formulas for Volume
Session one: Lego brick volume of a rectangle or square


Week Eight: Formulas for Volume
Session one: Ice cream or snack cone for volume of a cone


Week Nine: Distance, Velocity, Speed
Session one: Build a roller coaster


Week Ten: Interest, Principal, Rate
Session one: Design an app with a business plan and budget for potential investors.
