This is a pre-Algebra course that will introduce your child to variables. We will move from solving problems using mental math (problems that can be answered by doing math in your head), to writing the details out on paper so that ANY problem can be solved when set up as an algebraic equation. Students will learn how to solve equations with variables, called one-step equations, using addition and subtraction properties of equality. We will also solve one-step equations using the multiplication and division properties of equality. Using a PowerPoint presentation, I will demonstrate how to set up algebraic equations and solve them vertically down a page. Students will be given opportunities to solve problems themselves before the correct answers are shown. Within Zoom, students can post their answers at their own pace. If time permits, we will take simple word problems and change them into algebraic equations. Students will come full circle and complete the process by solving those equations!
