US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class will introduce/review the 6 syllable types that we teach students when learning how to read words with two or more syllables using Orton Gillingham strategies and Pokémon cards and character names. This class is especially great for students with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. The students will learn a mnemonic to remember the 6 syllable types. There will be key phrases, visuals, tactile, and auditory ways to learn. A typical lesson will go as follows: Show the syllable with a picture and key phrase, listening for examples and non-examples (thumbs up or down) Looking at words with the syllable type and learning syllable division and rules. We will use Pokémon cards and characters, magnetic tiles, virtual whiteboard, touch spelling to learn how to spell multi-syllabic words. After learning words with the syllable type, students will read words with the syllable patterns and play review games. There will be games such as guess this Pokémon, Pokémon memory match, etc.
Learning Goals
The students will be able to decode and spell multi-syllabic words in isolation and in text and become more fluent readers and spellers.
