This is a guided class through the Piano Adventures Music from China Primer book, you will learn to play music from China adapted to the piano and made just for your level! The first week, we use the Primer Level Piano from China book and take a picture tour of China! We also will learn the all black-key scale on which many Chinese pieces are based. We learn a little improvisation and another scale. The first song we learn is March Song (Gong Mode) by Sang Tong. Next week, we learn a few more modes/scales used in Chinese music and March Song (Yu Mode) also by Sang Tong. We are reading music and the next song looks like it could be Western music: The Young Pioneer has Departed. The third week, the Hani folk song, Come Here Quickly. The Ping Pong Song is after that. And a Jinuo folk song, the Brides Farewell, and Shepherd's song, a folk song from the Shanxi province rounds out the folk songs. A question and answer song is next, and a bit of composition comes next where you create your own Chinese song. At the end of the book is a Music Dictionary. We will use it to to do the crossword puzzle in the book. Don't worry, the music dictionary is made of words you have already learned in your first year of piano or during this course! Don't worry, we may not get through the entire book, but we can cover the main points.
