Hello! I am so excited to meet you all! My name is Jennie and I am a Primary school teacher with 13 years of experience and currently studying to become a specialist dyslexia teacher! In this ongoing class, we will learn the fundamentals of reading and writing through the use of phonics and whole-word strategies. The focus of the lesson will depend on the stage the learner is at, with phonics/reading/writing. We will recap sounds, focus on a new sound/sounds and learn to read and spell...
This class is taught in English.
Learners will learn to say sounds (phonemes) and recognise the letters associated with those sounds (graphemes) to support reading and spelling. Learners will use whole word strategies to learn 'tricky' words (words that can not be decoded/sounded out). We will extend our speaking and listening skills through sentence work and discussion.
Specialist Dyslexia Teacher Primary School teacher of 14 years
Homework Offered
Homework is optional, I am happy to share activities that will support the consolidation of skills learned in the lesson.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The assessment process will be informal, as I will continually assess the learner, their needs and their next steps.Grades Offered
Whiteboard, rubber and pens or pens/pencils and paper.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Use of Canva to create interactive and visual resources to help add meaning to learning and use a multisensory approach. These will be shared with the children via a green screen I have, or by sharing my screen. No individual account will be required. Sometimes, we play musical sound statues. For this, your child will need a safe place to move, free of obstructions.
