In this ongoing paragraph writing class, students will practice writing paragraphs using the hamburger method. Each week, they will write about engaging topics and learn about the power of a paragraph!

In this ongoing paragraph writing course, students will learn all about how to write a powerful paragraph. They will use the hamburger method (topic, details, conclusion) as they write about engaging topics each week. Each week, students will review the hamburger method of writing a paragraph. We will review what makes a good paragraph (clear details, concise language, vivid vocabulary). Then, students will be presented with the week's topic. We will discuss the topic as a class and talk through an example. Next, students will write their own paragraphs using the hamburger structure. Finally, we will work together to edit, improve and share (optional) our final paragraphs. What will the class structure be? Greeting/introductions Hamburger method instruction Analyzing a paragraph (discussion about what makes a good paragraph will come from this analyzing) Writing topic presentation & discussion Students write Editing and revising (each week we will focus on one element - end marks, vocabulary, capitalization, transition words, etc.) Sharing (optional) Week 1 (12/11) - My Character Traits Week 2 (12/17) - Animal Debate Week 3 (12/25)*No Monday Classes this week - The Best Season Week 4 (1/1) *No Monday Classes this week - My Talent This is an ongoing course and students are welcome to JOIN AT ANY TIME. This course is taught by a licensed elementary teacher (Masters in Elementary Education) with over 15 years of teaching experience. Your student will learn all about writing in a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment.

Hello, and welcome to Outschool! My name is Ms. Kristin. I am a licensed elementary school teacher with my Masters Degree in Elementary Education for grades 1-6. I absolutely love teaching! I have taught grades 3, 4, and 5 in a brick-and-mortar school for over eight years and have been teaching online, too, for the past four years. As a classroom teacher, I have become very familiar with elementary subjects for grades 1-5 and their corresponding standards in math, English, reading, writing, science, social studies, and test prep. Familiarity with different grade levels allows me to differentiate my instruction and guide students to higher levels of thinking as they master grade-level concepts and seek to enhance their skills. My lessons are based on Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.
