Painting Camp: Create Three Unique Paintings in Three Different Styles
What's included
3 live meetings
2 hrs 45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this three-day weekly art camp, learners have opportunity to create their own unique artwork by making choices about shape, color, and texture. Each painting offers opportunity for the learner to paint themselves into the picture doing something interesting! Learners could be flying in an airplane through the Northern Lights or surfing in the ocean and see a fish with big yellow eyes! Step-by-step instructions are provided for each artwork. Class environment is relaxed and calm with opportunity to ask questions, share thoughts, test ideas. Day 1: Landscape: using watercolors and acrylics, your artist will learn to paint trees, dragonflies, bees, and clouds to create a detailed landscape painting in the style of Leah Dorion. In the way that Indigenous artists use beads to create their art, your artist will embellish their painting with dots in a unique way to create a one-of-a-kind artwork. Materials: Day 2: The Northern Lights: Using acrylics and in the style of acclaimed artist, Ted Harrison, your artist will create amazing Northern Lights, framed by mountains or hills and a unique foreground, where they can include themselves doing what they enjoy and under the magical Northern Lights. Materials: Day 3: From the sky to the land to the sea, for the last painting project in our camp your artist will create a dramatic fish in the style of Norval Morrisseau. Using organic shapes and bold colors to represent the things your artist enjoys and loves the most, they will tell their own story in this unique painting experience.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Laurel Irving Piot. My students call me Ms. Irving.
I am a certified teacher in my province of Saskatchewan in Canada. I hold Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education.
It has been a privilege to teach all grades in Kindergarten to Grade 8/eight grade and I have worked with international students in public schools, at summer camps, and on-line. I am the recipient of provincial and national awards for teaching and school leadership.
Currently I work in schools with University students who are learning to be teachers.
I very much enjoy teaching art and supporting students in learning techniques and how art connects us to ourselves, our communities, and the world.
Classes I enjoy teaching are painting projects featuring the Northern Lights, Polar Bears and Inukshuks (that’s a cool word!), beginning pottery, how to be a pen pal, and for older students, how to scale up your side gig as an instructor/coach/tutor by learning how to be a great teacher.
Parent and students have shared with me that they appreciate that I listen to them, support their learning by using multiple strategies, and provide individualized opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning.
My philosophy of teaching and learning is that the classroom be a safe place, a place where they have access to quality education experiences, and that it is a fun place to be. I love Broadway musicals and have been known to break into song during class when inspired by something the students have done. There is a song for everything!
Best wishes to you and your learner. I would love to see you in my Outschool classroom.
