Our focus will be multiplication and division operations presented through PowerPoints in this ongoing class. Addition and subtraction will be used periodically in review lessons and in story problems. Flashcards and a whiteboard will be used in some classes. Each gathering will begin with a warm up. This is a time to quickly review a skill or word problem that will reinforce information commonly learned in second or third grade. Then the lesson will begin. Students will be verbally quizzed over the lesson to see how much they understood or retained. The class will end with a game to reinforce the material studied. Students will be asked to work problems out even when it is not their turn. They can compare their answer to the answer given verbally. It is recommended to bring a whiteboard and marker or paper and pencil to work the problems out. Learners my also chat the answer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Original Schedule, Beginning January 2021: (see below for Fall 2021 schedule) Week of January 18 - 23: Multiplication definition/terms; Multiply by 2s Week of January 25 - 30: Multiply by 0s, 1s and 4s Week of February 1 - 6: Multiply by 5s, 10s and 3s Week of February 8 - 13: Multiply by 6s and 7s Week of February 15 - 20: Multiply by 8s and Review 0s - 7s multiplication facts Week of February 22 - 27: Multiply by 9s and Review 0s - 8s multiplication facts Week of March 1 - 6: Multiply by 11s, 12s and Review 0s - 10s multiplication facts Week of March 8 - 13: Multiplication Tricks and Review (0s - 12s) Week of March 15 - 20: School Feud: Multiplication Review (0s - 12s) Week of March 22 - 27: Multiplication Facts Story Problems Week of March 29 - April 3: Introduction to Division, Vocabulary and Dividing by 2s Week of April 5 - April 10: Dividing by 0s, 1s, 3s and review 2s Week of April 12 - April 17: Dividing by 4s and reviewing 0s - 3s Week of April 19 - April 24: Dividing by 5s and 6s reviewing 0s - 4s Week of April 26 - May 1: Dividing by 7s and reviewing 0s - 6s Week of May 3 - May 8: Dividing by 8s and reviewing 0s - 7s Week of May 10 - May 15: Dividing by 9s and reviewing 0s - 8s Week of May 17 - May 21: NO CLASS Week of May 24 - May 29: Dividing by 10s, 11s and 12s Week of May 31 - June 4: Review of all division facts Week of June 7 - June 12: Mixed Multiplication and Division Facts Class ending. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fall 2021 Schedule: August 18: Multiplication definition/terms; Multiply by 2s August 25: Multiply by 0s, 1s and 4s September 1: Multiply by 5s, 10s and 3s September 8: Multiply by 6s and 7s September 15: Multiply by 8s and Review 0s - 7s multiplication facts September 22: Multiply by 9s and Review 0s - 8s multiplication facts September 29: Multiply by 11s, 12s and Review 0s - 10s multiplication facts October 6: Multiplication Tricks and Review (0s - 12s) October 13: Multiplication Facts Story Problems October 20: Introduction to Division, Vocabulary and Dividing by 2s October 27: Dividing by 0s, 1s, 3s and review 2s November 3: Dividing by 4s and reviewing 0s - 3s November 10: Dividing by 5s and 6s reviewing 0s - 4s November 17: Dividing by 7s and reviewing 0s - 6s November 24: Dividing by 8s and reviewing 0s - 7s December 1: Dividing by 9s and reviewing 0s - 8s December 8: Dividing by 10s, 11s and 12s December 15: Mixed Multiplication and Division Facts

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Miss Kay. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree in Special Education. I have taught students with learning disabilities, mild developmental disabilities and emotional disabilities. For twelve years, I home schooled my own two children which included lots of hand-on activities, co-ops and fieldtrips.
Currently, I am in my eighth year of teaching adults with developmental disabilities. I have taught over twenty different types of classes including Math, Literature, Geography, Drama, Critical Thinking and Scrapbooking. Every summer we have fun with themes such as T.V. Games Shows, Escape Rooms, Disney and Super Heroes. We moved all our in-person classes to be virtual classes due to the pandemic. I have been teaching virtually since June of 2020.
I believe every child is just as important as the next. They should be given the time needed to process the information taught and questions asked. Children need to be an active part in their learning, what they have to say is important. Each student in my class has their own strengths and I want them to shine!
My topics can cover a broad span, but I believe interaction through games and discussion is my teaching style. PowerPoints and whiteboards are important visual tools to utilize. I believe in the quote that Outschool uses, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
I love to travel. I have been to eight countries and lived in Guatemala for seven years. I have taught and worked with children of all ages ever since I was a child. Teaching is my passion. My family has raised chickens and geese, grown our own food and volunteered in numerous places. Our one year old Australian Cattle dog keeps us very busy!
I am looking forward to seeing you in class and getting to know you!
