Class Experience

In this ongoing class we will be exploring the camera's available on our phones, as well as different apps to edit your photos.

Each week we'll begin class by sharing submitted photos either based on a theme given during the last class, or any photo you're proud of that you'd like to share .
I'll be sharing them on my screen as we discuss things like composition, light, theme, etc.

I'll occasionally share the screen from my phone to show live editing demonstrations.

We'll finish the class by discussing the theme for the coming week, we'll look at examples of the theme in photo's from different photographers and we'll address any questions related to that theme.

Upcoming Weekly Themes:

Week of November 30: Composition
Week of December 7: Light
Week of December 14: Shadow
Week of December 21: Texture
Week of December 28: Movement
Week of January 4: Reflections
Week of January 11: Abstraction

I find that photography is a mindfulness practice for me. It helps me to connect in a deeper way to nature and the world around me. Rather than being disconnected through the screen I find I pay more attention to what's happening in front of me, I see more details, I find a quietness inside as I observe more closely. Photography is also a great way to express your creativity, seeing things in different ways than you might otherwise.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I completed my BFA with a secondary focus in photography back before there were cameras in our phones. For awhile I couldn't understand why anyone would want a camera on their phone, but as technology progressed I began to prefer taking photos with my phone instead of the camera. Over the last 6 months I did an NFT project called The Daily Good on objkt.com. For 109 days, every single day I took a photo with my phone and uploaded it to objkt.com with a reflection on "what's going good?" After that I continued taking and uploading a new photo Monday - Friday until I had completed 6 months. During that time my mobile photography skills have skyrocketed and I love what I am able to create with just a phone.
