If your learner is writing an essay for their English or literature class, they will need to learn how to properly format an essay in MLA (Modern Language Association) style. MLA style is the standard format for essays written in most of the Humanities. This skill is required for high school and for post-secondary education. All learners are welcome, including those who are neurodivergent. For this class, my teaching style will be that of the Demonstrator/Coach. We will cover formatting the text and the basics of parenthetical (in-text) citations and the Works Cited page. We will begin the class with introductions (including pronouns) and an icebreaker so that the students will feel comfortable. Then there will be an informative Slides presentation, followed by a demonstration in Google Docs where students may follow along with their own essays. I teach in a down-to-earth manner and respect my learners. There will be a question period at the end of the lesson. Students should have a basic knowledge of Google Docs for this class. Please note that this is an introductory class to MLA Formatting; extensive information about how to cite each individual source is another class! ☺️
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to set up their essays in basic MLA format including the formatting and style of the text, and the formatting of the parenthetical citations and Works Cited page.

I have taught English and Language for 17+ years, and have been a certified teacher for 15 years. I have taught ages 14-18 in all levels of English courses (including essay writing skills) and have marked thousands of essays over the years!
I have completed Special Education Part One, Part Two, and Specialist, and last summer I took an additional course in teaching students with Autism. In my role as a high school teacher, I teach a Learning Strategies course and have a caseload of 100+ students that are neurodiverse that I support every day. I am also a Google Certified Educator and have taken a course in teaching through eLearning and have taught online for two years through other platforms. In addition, all three of my children are neurodivergent, with ASD, Anxiety, and Giftedness.
