In this ongoing course, learners will practice a different 2nd/3rd grade math skill each week and will leave with optional practice activities for further development.
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 3
In each class meeting, Direct Instruction will occur on a specific elementary math topic. What that means is that I will explicitly teach each component of the skill, we will practice it together, and then students will perform the skill independently. Each student will leave the course with optional practice materials to complete outside of class. We will be loosely following the Saxon Math series, supplemented by Morningside Math Facts. Scrap paper and pencil or a whiteboard and marker are required. If you have access to a printer, I'll be sending optional materials to continue study outside of class.

We may use Gimkit for skill practice. Kids will receive a game code for Gimkit, so they won't be required to log in; however, they may create an account for Gimkit if they wish to collect points. We may also utilize PrecisionX for charting data; however, students will not be required to visit this resource and will only view their own charts to see their progress. We may do some activities on Nearpod. Again, they will receive an activity code and will not need to log in.
I loosely follow the Saxon Math curriculum scope and sequence, but teaching with Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching methodology. I use Morningside Math Facts for increasing fluency.
