Description
Class Experience
This class will review a great deal of the curriculum that a learner would have covered in a 6th Grade math book. It is meant to be used as a review for learners who will be moving into the 7th Grade math curriculum next school year. However, if you have a learner who will be moving into the 6th Grade curriculum, next school year, but want a sneak peek (review) before the new school year begins...they are welcome to enroll as well. My general suggestion is that parents start their learner...
Learners will work toward mastering the following math concepts on a 6th grade level: MATH Skills - -------------------------------- >>> Addition & Subtraction >>> Multiplication & Division >>> Decimals >>> Fractions >>> Integers >>> Percentages >>> Pre-Algebra LIFE Skills - -------------------------------- >>> Collaboration >>> Communication >>> Critical thinking >>> Problem-solving >>> Reasoning >>> Listening
My experiences as a home educator and private school teacher have afforded me 10+ years teaching math concepts to students of all ages, especially 6th graders. Throughout those years I have developed many ways to make math mastery attainable for learners within the different levels. My all time favorite way is through gaming.
There is no required homework; however, students are encouraged to continue practicing their math concepts outside of our group tutoring sessions. Homework will not be assigned because the instructor doesn't enjoy grading papers. It stresses her out. Lol The instructor will communicate to parents/guardians regarding what the learner is excelling at and whether they notice any challenges, throughout the course.
3 files available upon enrollmentRequired: - a notebook (for scratch paper and taking notes) - a pack of pencils with erasers - a pencil sharpener Suggested: - access to a printer w/ink (for printing any bonus resources that the instructor MAY provide) - access to a ream of printer paper (for printing any bonus resources that the instructor MAY provide)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The instructor will let parents/guardians know what the learner is excelling at and whether they notice any challenges, throughout the course.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Our group sessions are highly interactive and (sometimes) very competitive. The learners will have a chance to compete against each other (but also work together) each week and earn rewards as they play. Not all students will win. Learners should be able to exhibit good sportsmanship regardless if they win or lose. In this group the materials will be presented to the learners via an interactive Canva or Google slideshow presentation (shared on the teacher's device, only). We also may utilize Google Docs for the assessments. No external links will be clicked. No additional websites will be visited. No additional logins are necessary for the learners.
