Fractions are often one of the most challenging math topics for students, but in Summer Fractions Boot Camp: Mastering Fractions with Ease, learners will develop a deep understanding of fractions in a fun and engaging way! This interactive summer class is designed to build confidence and fluency with fractions through hands-on strategies, visual models, and real-world applications. Many students struggle with fractions because they learn them through memorization instead of conceptual understanding. This class takes a different approach! Using fraction models, number patterns, and problem-solving activities, students will learn how to compare, simplify, add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions while understanding why these operations work. What Will Be Taught? This class follows a step-by-step approach, beginning with fraction fundamentals and progressing to more advanced concepts. Topics include: * Understanding fractions and their parts * Identifying and representing fractions * Simplifying fractions using the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) * Converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers * Multiplying and dividing fractions using the Keep-Change-Flip (KCF) method * Adding and subtracting fractions with common and different denominators * Finding the Least Common Multiple (LCM) for fraction operations * Applying fractions to real-world problems How is This Class Structured? Each lesson is designed to be engaging, interactive, and structured for success. Classes follow a consistent routine to help students feel comfortable and confident: * Concept Introduction – I introduce the topic using visual models, fraction strips, and number patterns to help students build understanding. * Guided Practice – We work through problems together, exploring different ways to approach fraction operations. * Interactive Activities – Students will engage in games, discussions, and problem-solving challenges to reinforce their learning. * Independent Practice & Discussion – Students will apply what they've learned, ask questions, and discuss strategies. How Will You Teach? I believe that math should be interactive, meaningful, and student-centered. Instead of memorizing rules, students will use visual models, manipulatives, and real-world applications to truly understand fractions. My teaching methods include: * Live instruction with visuals, slides, and interactive demonstrations * Hands-on practice with fraction strips, number lines, and area models * Fun math challenges, real-world applications, and problem-solving discussions * Encouraging student participation, questions, and exploration What’s Your Teaching Style? My teaching style is engaging, supportive, and personalized. I adapt my instruction to meet the needs of my students, ensuring they feel comfortable, confident, and successful in their learning. I provide encouragement and step-by-step guidance so students gain a solid foundation in fractions. How Much Will Learners Get to Interact With You? This is a highly interactive class where students will engage in: * Live discussions – Students can ask questions and participate throughout the lesson. * Games and problem-solving challenges – Making fractions fun and engaging. * Guided and independent practice – Working on problems with teacher support. * Real-world applications – Connecting fractions to everyday life. This class is perfect for students who want to strengthen their fraction skills over the summer in a supportive and fun learning environment. Whether your child is new to fractions or needs a refresher before the next school year, they will leave this class more confident and capable in working with fractions!
Learning Goals
Understand Fractions Conceptually – Recognize that fractions represent parts of a whole, parts of a set, and points on a number line.
Identify and Represent Fractions – Read, write, and model fractions using visuals like fraction strips, number lines, area models, and real-world examples.
