Course begins with going over the general format the ACT math test and how its approach is unique from other sections of the test. We will be going over a powerpoint that describes general approaches and these select commonly-tested topics: power rules, measures of statistical center, area/ perimeter/ circumference, angles, probability, combinations/ permutations, systems of equations, basic trigonometry, and simplifying complex fractions. After the lecture we will be going to the ACT's released practice test and practicing actual test questions as released by the test maker. We will not be starting at the beginning of the test, rather we will be jumping to the middle so we can look at some harder material. In addition to working through practice questions, students will be able to ask questions about topics that they need to brush up on, so the course can adapt to students' needs.
Learning Goals
Students will become familiar with the test format and specific content of the ACT math section. They will become familiar with power rules, measures of center, area/ perimeter/ circumference, angles, probability, combinations/ permutations, systems of equations, basic trigonometry, and simplifying complex fractions and how all of these appear on the ACT Math test.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from University of Missouri-St. Louis
After working as a full-time teacher and earning my master's degree, I went into tutoring. I have almost a decade in test prep tutoring, teaching in one on one, small group, large seminar, and online formats. I have worked with the old SAT, ACT, and the new SAT format. To decide what specifically to teach for this class, I went through a few released tests and analyzed how many questions were on each topic. Using that knowledge I picked a few topics that were highly tested and relatively easy to become familiar with in a short period of time. This course is unique because it is a data-driven course taught by a highly experienced teacher while at the same time chock full of nerdy references to keep things fun.
