Class Experience

Did you know that a rainbow is a great way to help remember facts that add up to ten? Learners will practice counting ways to make ten using one-to-one correspondence. We will use a marine theme to review numbers 1-10 and their values. Learners will have several opportunities to practice adding quantities to equal 10 using dolphins, numerals, fingers, their rainbow tool and Google slides. Children will listen to a song about numbers that make 10. We will make a rainbow tool together and I will show them how to use it to help remember numbers added to make 10.

Learning Goals

Learners will practice adding to ten using one-to-one correspondence. Children will be able to recognize, name and add numerals to equal 10. Students will learn how to use a rainbow to remember the ways to add up to 10.

Other Details

Supply List
Please print the rainbow page so your learner can practice adding to ten. I will show them how to make a rainbow to help them remember the corresponding numbers to make 10. We will not have time to color the rainbow completely, but I will show them where to put the colors and numbers.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I am Theresa Purdy. I am excited to teach about animals, science, math, language arts, kindergarten / 1st grade readiness, and conduct science and art experiments. Photography and scrapbooking are my most passionate hobbies. While I was my daughter's Brownie troop leader and my son's Cub Scout leader, I kept them busy with crafts, discussions, experiments and exploration.

I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Murray State University and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Southern University. I taught 4th grade for 14 years, preschool for 4 years and was a kindergarten assistant for 5 years. I have two sons and a daughter.

I learn best by doing, so I want to be able to teach children facts but also give them opportunities to practice as much as possible. Building foundational skills is essential so that children feel confident and successful as they move on to another year of school. It is my passion to help children understand concepts, so they do not get frustrated or develop a negative attitude toward learning. I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom!

You can find me teaching with Shooting Star Academy!
