Class experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner - Intermediate Level
By the end of this workshop, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to confidently plan, establish, and maintain a thriving garden, enabling them to cultivate a variety of plants successfully while understanding essential principles such as soil health, plant care, and pest management.
I've loved gardening since I was a kid, thanks to my Grandma. We'd visit the garden store every spring, and she'd teach me all about it. Now that I'm grown up, I make a veggie garden every year. I plant seeds, then move them outside to grow and pick later on.

See Class Photos for Additional Information: -12 medicine cups or cardboard egg carton with 3-5 small holes poked in the bottom (please use adult supervision for poking holes) -Garden Soil (~5 cups) -1-4 packets of Vegetable or fruit seeds (please do not use seeds left over from various fruits or vegetables unless seeds have been prepped properly prior to the course) -Watering can or spray bottle with plenty of water. -Marker -1 large water-proof container to hold cups/egg carton/seeding trays (I recommend a large Tupperware with a clear lid or food-grade plastic wrap to cover seedlings as they grow) -Popsicle Sticks for each type of seed planted -Large baking tray or clear space for this small mess making hands-on activity Optional: Properly sized gardening gloves for student
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students should attend this course where ample space is available for students to perform this activity. Students will be working with soil, water, and seeds therefore, students should have the ability to wash hands before, during, and after the hands-on portion of this course. If the student is inside working, it is recommended to use a large baking sheet for planting to avoid messes within the home.
