Class Experience

My goal is for artists to have fun learning how to complete a simple, timeless design using lines and shapes that they are already familiar with in new ways to create a sun/moon design.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, chalk pastels and more. My personal style, as reflected in my own artwork over the years, is more abstract, graphic, and even impressionistic. I worked with young learners for several years when I was in charge of a volunteer- lead art program that focused on art elements and the art masters. We did many different thematic projects and used different media each month. I continue to search for and develop more projects incorporating fun compositions and techniques. I love discovering how one technique can have unexpected results and even be used in new ways. Sharing these colorful and simple ideas with young artists is exciting - I often learn from them as well as they express themselves!
There’s no specific homework, but artists may want to continue experimenting and creating more designs on their own.
- Mixed media paper – 8 x 10 or larger - Fine and Ultra fine tip Black sharpie marker - Pencil and eraser - Watercolors, - Brushes - Cup of water - Old washcloth - Washable markers - Colored pencils, if desired - Something to trace a circle about 5 inches (like an oatmeal lid or coffee can)
Throughout the class, I will have artists share their work with me to see their progress and ask questions as they arise.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
