Let's Talk About the Keyboard! - Beginner Typing Skills

During this class, students will learn how to correctly place their hands on the keyboard as well as learn about other features of the keyboard. I will model to the students with videos and visuals on how to correctly use the home row keys. Students will have opportunities to practice placing their hands correctly and typing words and phrases using the skill they have learned. I believe that learning should be fun and differentiated to meet the needs of all learning style and learners. Discussion will take place between the students and I as they are practicing and if any questions come up. Letter identification knowledge will be beneficial in this class, but no prior keyboard knowledge is necessary. 
Week 1: Discuss the layout of the QWERTY keyboard and introduction to correct finger placement for the home row keys.
Week 2: Discuss left vs. right hand home row keys and begin practicing typing short words. Work on reaching correct fingers above and below the home row to touch and type other keys on the keyboard.
Week 3: Review what we have learned and type a paragraph using correct finger placement on the keyboard about what the students dream day would look like.
