Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner Level
This is a 1:1 Keyboarding Course based on my live group classes.

**This is a relatively new class but you can see more 5 STAR REVIEWS on my flex keyboarding class, which is the same material as this live class**

Give your learner the gift of typing-efficiency for the rest of their lives! This 8-week course will bring learners from beginner thru intermediate typing skills. The first few weeks will be devoted to learning the keyboard (the various function of the keys as well as letter and word drills), then we will transition into sentence and paragraph drills as they begin to memorize where the keys are located and which finger should strike each key/letter. I will assign practice games between classes specific to the skills/keys we worked on during the lesson that week.

This class will be taught using interactive slides on Nearpod.com to do drills. I will demonstrate letter-drills by moving my webcam so that the learners can see my hands and keyboard. It is important that they know how to match up the correct finger with each letter so that good habits develop at the start. The drills will be broken up with various activities such as memory games, virtual field trips and jokes on the Nearpod slides. This gives their brains a break in between learning each set of keys so the letters do not "run together" in their minds!

Learning Goals
Students will develop typing speed and accuracy. Students will learn to type using 3 types of input: written word, dictation, and their own thought-processes (writing a unique paragraph or sending an email). Students will develop memorization of the keyboard so that they can type without looking at the keys or their fingers. Students will develop a level of typing skill needed for today's educational assignments and high tech jobs which require much written communication at a fast pace.

Other Details

Learning Needs
With 1-on-1 tutoring we can go at the learner's pace. There are fun Nearpod activities between the drills to give learners a short "brain break" between drills.
Parental Guidance
I highly suggest that parents try to stay somewhere in the room during our time together in class. I am not able to observe learners' fingers on the keyboards so I am not able to see if they are reverting back to "two-finger typing" or even "copy/pasting" of the drills. If you are in view of their hands, you can see if they are actually typing the keys :)

My one-minute speed test result is 72 words per minute and I have had many jobs/businesses which require a lot of typing. I took a one-semester typing class in high school (I learned on a typewriter!), and avidly used a word processor in college (my friends would often ask me to type their term papers). My mom went to secretarial school in the 60's and she types 90 words per minute! After I developed this course she went through it and gave me some great advice on changes I could make to really embed these skills into learners minds for life! So this course is "expert-approved" and very thorough! (Please see 5 star ratings in my group classes).
