Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Let’s make learning fun! This ongoing class mixes Pokemon and learning. Each week students will participate in a Pokemon-themed educational lesson based on a topic. During this 25-minute lesson, students will be able to learn about the topic, ask questions and answer multiple choice questions which will help check for understanding. The first 4 topics will be as follows:

Session 1 (March 16) - Branches of Government
Session 2 (March 23) - The Solar System
Session 3 (March 30) - Math (Multiplication)
Session 4 (April 6) - Writing Dialogue

In addition to integrating Pokemon into our learning each week, we will also dedicate part of each class to creating virtual Pokemon card teams and determining their game strengths. Learners will have the opportunity to collect and trade virtual cards in an effort to craft digital Pokemon teams they love! Our card team process is described below.

During the last 15 minutes of each class, as a reward for all they learned, students will be able to virtually select a Pokemon card at random. All of the students in that class session will be placed in a random order generator and an order will be selected for students to pick a reward card. In that order, students will be able to pick a number which coincides with a card. The student will then be able to see which reward card they have received. Each student will be able to keep 5 virtual cards. If they have been in the class for 5 weeks and have earned 5 reward Pokemon cards they will have the opportunity the trade in one of their cards and replace it with another randomly selected card.

After students have selected their cards, they will do a math equation based on their cards to come up with their team strength. They will get points for each of their cards based on the strength of their cards. The scale to create their team strength will be as follows:

Rainbow Rare: 20 Points
Tag Team Card: 20 Points
VMAX Card: 30 Points
GX Card: 20 Points
EX Card: 15 Points
V Card: 20 Points
Card with HP at or above 120: 20 Points
Card with HP Under 12: 10 Points

If a student randomly selects a Rainbow Rare Tag Team Card with 200 HP that card is worth 60 points (20 + 20 +20). At the end of class each week, students will add up the points of each of their cards and come up with their team strength.

Students can join any week and will be able to start their virtual card collection!

I have been a teacher for 9 years working with students in this age range. During this time I have taught many different subjects, including history and social studies. I have taught students who have performed very well in school and State exams in numerous subject that I have taught to them. When teaching subjects to students I believe that teaching it in a fun way allows it to be learned easier.
