LEARN: LGBTQIA Stories and Coloring Club
Class experience
Welcome to the Rainbow Reading and Coloring Club with Mylo! In this space, everyone is special and loved. In this classroom, we'll read books with LGBTQIA characters and themes. Each student will be provided with a coloring sheet custom made by Mylo to match each story! Students can trace the sheet from the computer screen, or print it out at home. We'll begin each class with names and pronouns, a fun icebreaker to get to know each other, we'll read our story, and finish with some coloring...
Students will learn about diversity, empathy, and friendship through storytelling and literature.
Mylo (they/them) is a teaching artist with a focus on social justice and the visual arts. They have 6+ years experience in formal academic settings as well as community education projects. Mylo is a native Texan currently based in Austin and received their MFA from Parsons School of Design.
Blank Paper* or Printed Coloring Page Pencil Coloring Supplies (markers, crayons, pencils) *Don't have a printer? Use your paper and pencil to trace the coloring page .pdf document from the computer/tablet screen!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will read stories with LGBTQIA characters and themes. Vocabulary such as "pronoun" and "gender" will be used in the context of the storytelling. Please note that we will relate themes of the books to our own experience, but this class will not be taught as therapy.
