Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 7
This class will be a discussion including how to start studying paleontology, what it is like, and some of the things that are taught. I am a fourth year student in an honors program where I specialize in vertebrate paleontology and paleo-ecology so I am happy to talk about how I got here and share advice so that students who are interested in perusing the same field of study can make that a reality. For the class I will also bring a current research paper so that we can look at what paleontology research actually is and if that's something that the student is interested in.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
I'm Jack and I love to teach about my main interest which is science. Specifically I mostly teach about paleontology, biology, and natural history but I also love to introduce people to some of my hobbies such as Dungeons & Dragons (as well as other table top role playing games), wildlife photography, and video games.
I'm currently a fourth year student in an honors earth science program where I specialize in Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoecology.
I've also worked in science centers and museums since I was 16 where I learned my passion for science communication and picked up most of the teaching skills and techniques I use today. It is also where I picked up my casual, conversational style of teaching where I rely on my deep understanding of a subject and use my passion to discuss it rather than reading pre-written lecture notes off of slides. I run my classes on the philosophy that if the students feel comfortable and have fun, they're more likely to remember the material and gain a better appreciation for the subject than if I were to just tell them facts for half an hour and send them home. This means that I often schedule more class time than I have material to teach because I anticipate class discussions and tangents to be incorporated into the lessons.
