In my years of experiences one common thing I have witnessed is a struggle for students to be able to read a novel and successfully answer literary questions. In most cases, the ability to read a select text is not the issue. The issue arrives when the teacher asks for students to respond to what they've read. Students may have forgotten these concepts taught at younger ages or just need a refresher so that they are prepared for that next novel study. This course offers the basics in understanding the different literary skills and being able to apply them. Each class we cover a different concept. We start off with the basics and gradually increase rigor so that eventually the stepping stones that we started with are no longer necessary and students find they can answer literary questions without difficulty. Students are provided with guided notes that will be completed with the teacher during a thorough PowerPoint presentation of the concept. In a rare case, there may be homework in terms of practicing a passage on their own but that is rare. In most cases, there is no additional work outside of class. Week 1: Inferences Week 2: Connotations and Denotation Week 3: Text Evidence Week 4: RACE Writing Strategy
