Class Experience

Students learn how to use the Scratch graphical programming language and develop their thinking and reasoning skills. By the end of the club meetings, they can make their own games!

Scratch is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.

In this ongoing Scratch club; therefore, we will be create several games during the duration of the club!

Week 1 - Shark Chase
The predator follows the prey and the prey is the mouse pointer. If the prey gets caught, you lost.

Week 2 - Maze Game
There’s a maze the player has to navigate and get to the end, but there’s a ghost that randomly floats around. If it touches you, you lose.

Week Three - Apple Hunter Game
You move around with the arrow keys to catch an apple while a bat floats around and kills you if it touches you. When you collect an apple, the score increases and the apple moves to a new random location.

Week Four - Crabs and Raining Cats Game
You slide a basket left and right on the bottom of the screen and catch cats as they fall from the top of the screen. Try to avoid catching the crabs, because they decrease the score.

Week 5 - Crabs and Raining Cats Game Continued

Week 6 - Flappy Cat Game
Similar to Flappy Bird, the cat continuously falls but flies up again when the space bar is pressed. If it hits any of the pipes or the ground, you lose.

Week 7 - Game of the Dinosaur
The dinosaur just stays on the ground and jumps when a key is pressed to avoid random palm trees that come towards it as it runs.

Week 8 - Wrap up and Create Your Own Game
Most Fun, Prettiest/Most Aesthetic, and Most Original

Teacher expertise and credentials
All my life, I have had a fascination and interest in computing and technology. I have always enjoyed keeping up-to-date with the latest advances in technology and have remained amazed at the speed of computerized developments over the past few years.

For as long as I can remember, I have been using computers at school and at home. When I connected my computer to the internet several years ago, I discovered another enthralling world for me to explore. Since then I have gained teaching experience with several applications, such as: desktop applications, web applications and mobile applications.

Presently, as a Computer Science and an Engineering teacher, I lead my students through creative design and problem-solving processes, guiding them to use programming in activities like building their own apps, websites, and video games.
