Parental Guidance
Please note that needle felting involves the use of very sharp needles. Students are advised to use leather finger protectors on the fingers of their non-dominant hand. It is highly likely to get a poke in the finger when you are trying needle felting for the first few times. Adult supervision is recommended if you are unsure of your learner's hand-eye coordination or dexterity.
Supply List
You may attend this class without any needle felting supplies so that you can get an overview of the supplies you will need to acquire. However, if you have some of the materials or would like to start right away, here are the required supplies: 2 or 3 leather finger protectors (you can ask an adult to help you cut the fingers off of a heavy duty leather glove or purchase these online). 1 needle felting mat (natural fiber, wool, or foam mats are recommended for beginners). Several felting needles (these can be purchased online and must be specifically for needle felting—you will need several because they tend to break when you are first starting out). A handful of carded wool (this must be natural sheep's wool, which is the easiest fiber type for beginners). All of these supplies can usually be found in a prepackaged needle felting kit, which also gives you a few colors of wool to play with.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
