Intermediate Level
1. What will be taught? I’ll teach the fundamentals of chess, including piece movements, basic tactics (such as pins, forks, skewers), and strategies (like controlling the center and piece development). We’ll also cover advanced topics like opening theory, endgames, and common checkmate patterns. I’ll ensure the course includes both theory and practical exercises to help you improve. 2. What topics will you cover? Introduction to Chess: Board setup, pieces, and basic moves. Tactics and Combinations: Pins, forks, skewers, discovered attacks, and tactical motifs. Opening Principles: Developing pieces, controlling the center, king safety, and basic opening systems. Middle Game: Planning, piece activity, pawn structures, and creating threats. Endgames: King and pawn endings, basic checkmates, and important endgame principles. Chess Notation and History: How to read and record games, and key historical milestones. 3. How is your class structured? The class will be structured into progressive lessons, each focusing on specific themes or techniques. Each session will typically start with a lecture or demonstration on the topic of the day, followed by interactive exercises or games where students can apply what they’ve learned. I’ll ensure the pace suits the learner’s level, starting with fundamentals and gradually moving to more advanced concepts. 4. How will you teach? I will use a blend of explanations, demonstrations, and interactive practice. The key is balancing theory with practical application. I’ll provide puzzles and challenges to help you solidify concepts and encourage learners to ask questions or play out scenarios. Using games and real-life examples from famous chess matches will also make the learning process engaging and memorable. 5. What's your teaching style? My teaching style is supportive, interactive, and adaptive. I believe in hands-on learning, so I make sure to engage students with puzzles, interactive lessons, and even games with one-on-one feedback. I break down complex ideas into simple, digestible steps and encourage self-paced learning with plenty of room for practice. 6. How much will learners get to interact with you? Students will have ample opportunity to interact with me. I encourage questions during lessons, provide personalized feedback, and hold practice sessions where I can directly observe and help students refine their play. I’ll be available for additional support outside of class if needed, whether through email, forum, or one-on-one sessions. This approach helps ensure students not only understand theory but also gain practical experience to improve their skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My journey teaching chess began 15 years ago when I first fell in love with the game. What started as a personal passion soon turned into a desire to share the joy of chess with others. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students of all ages and skill levels, each bringing their unique perspective to the board.
When I first began teaching, I focused on the basics—introducing the chessboard, pieces, and their movements. I found that building a solid foundation was key to helping my students feel confident and excited. As they progressed, I introduced key concepts like controlling the center, piece development, and tactical motifs such as forks, pins, and skewers.
The real joy of teaching chess, for me, has been seeing my students’ growth. Whether it’s a young beginner learning the game for the first time or an experienced player refining their skills, I enjoy guiding them through challenges and celebrating their improvements. I’ve learned just as much from my students as they’ve learned from me.
Chess has taught me patience, strategy, and the importance of thinking ahead. Sharing these lessons with others has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, and I look forward to continuing to teach and inspire others in the years to come.
