History meets imagination as we join William Shakespeare at The Globe for a production of his newest play, and produce a piece of ‘eye witness’ creative writing.

Class experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Students will gain an understanding of:
basic facts surrounding the times of Shakespeare, the theatre of the era and performances at the Globe.
how to create their own fact-grid
the different features of writing a creative piece with a historic setting and how it differs from a purely factual piece
planning their writing and creating a fictional account set during an actual event.
Writing is my passion and as well as majoring in English at university, along with Theatre Arts, I've almost 20 years of experience in teaching English in primary schools (4-11-year-olds). Over those years I have worked regularly with groups of children specifically on English writing skills. My favourite lessons have always been when I can find out what interests and motivates a student and use those interests to engage a learner and build their confidence.
Part of my degree consisted of Shakespearean studies, attending performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford- upon- Avon and workshops with RSC actors, including onstage in the RSC Theatre. I have visited the Globe Theatre frequently, both for my own enjoyment and with school groups for educational visits and activities.
I have also worked with young students covering several of Shakespeare’s plays over the last 6 years when I have led fact vs opinion work, model making, drama-based lessons, persuasive writing and diary-entry style work and so on.
