Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Want to your child to learn cursive but not sure where to start? Has your child begun learning cursive only to give up in frustration? Tired of your deciphering your learners messy print? Hoping your learner will write longer pieces or simply write more quickly? Is your English Language Learner (ESL) proficient in writing print and ready to take the next step in English writing?

You have come to the right place. Hi, I'm Miss Marler, and I've taught elementary writing online, full-time now for going on 3 years. Prior to this, I was a Texas, public, elementary and high school teacher. Many of my writers struggle with their penmanship and handwriting. I've developed this FLEX class with the methods of teaching cursive that have worked best for my students over the years to help them improve their writing skills, in readability, speed, and beauty.

COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course incrementally builds cursive writing skills. It begins with letters that learners will already be most familiar with and builds upon their previous knowledge. From day one, learners will be practicing not only the letters themselves, but also connecting letters and creating words.

COURSE STRUCTURE:
Learners will receive a short, 5-10 minute weekly video on Sunday evening for them to practice. Learners will also receive accompanying, printable, cursive worksheets. Please watch and repeat the video once a day for 3-5 days a week along with the worksheets. Most learners enjoy practicing cursive and will enjoy watching their abilities grow each day! Learners should practice between 10-30 minutes a day 3-5 days a week. More than this will likely lead to learner fatigue and burnout. Less practice than this will likely not result in cursive proficiency.

SCOPE & SEQUENCE
This class is part 1 of 4 in my Happy Cursive! series. Each part will focus on different letters. All letters in part 1 are lower case.

Week 1: a, c, d, e
Week 2: t, i, l
Week 3: h, b, k
Week 4: m, n, o

SUBMITTING WORK: There is no work to submit in this class. Parents are expected to actively support and monitor their learner's progress. However, please feel welcome to share your writer's beautiful work by posting to the classroom wall! :)

FLEX CLASSES:
This class is taught by pre-recorded video which may be accessed anytime throughout the day. It is perfect for writers wanting to learn cursive, but who also want some flexibility in their schedule.

COURSE START AND ENDING DATES:
Instructor wants to help and support her learners whenever possible. If you to transfer to another section, please let me know, and I will be happy to accommodate.

COURSE FEEDBACK: The instructor will provide feedback upon request.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Fine motor skills and hand strength are the most foundational element for this class. Students do not need to have mastered print writing. However, they do need to be able to color a full-sized coloring page with good control (mostly staying inside the lines.)

SPECIAL NEEDS:
As a traditionally certified, former, Texas public education teacher, Miss Marler is professionally trained and has extensive experience teaching special needs populations. If your writer has a diagnosed or suspected learning disability, IEP, or 504 in place, please share any pertinent information with me before class begins. Miss Marler will make every effort to support parents and accommodate learners, in accordance with what her training, experience, and expertise believe is in the best interest of the child. If you are considering the class and not sure if it will be a good fit for your learner, please feel welcome to message the teacher with a writing sample for a free evaluation and feedback.
Learning Goals
