In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1. We will refer to two short stories in this class. Your learner may choose the story that appeals to them more, or they may choose to read both. They are both well-known stories that you can find easily online. I recommend searching for a pdf version of each story and, if possible, printing the story out. Studies show that we learn better and remember more when we read from a physical copy (compared to an electronic copy). The stories are "The Jacket" by Gary Soto "The White Umbrella" by Gish Jen For your convenience, I will also send links to pdfs of these stories in the Welcome Message. 2. Learners will also be using the Internet as a research tool outside of class. 3. We will read the following novels: Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Christopher Grabenstein, and Front Desk by Kelly Yang. Books may be checked out from the library or purchased. Ebooks are allowed.
