4 live meetings
3 hrs 20 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Throughout this class students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. It is a 4 part course. We will meet twice a week for two weeks. The schedule is as follows: Week 1 Day 1: Adding Fractions Day 2: Subtracting Fraction Week 2 Day 3: Multiplying Fractions Day 4: Dividing Fractions We will begin each lesson with a quick warm-up that reviews the material taught during the previous class. I will teach the new concept by explaining and demonstrating the concept through practice problems. Students will then be asked to participate in solving "Your Turn" problems so that I can evaluate their level of understanding. Students will need to know basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts in order to succeed in this course. It would also be helpful to understand how to simplify fractions and how to find common denominators. I will be reviewing these two concepts briefly during the lessons in order to refresh student's minds, but it would be beneficial to have already learned these concepts in the past. If your student has not yet learned how to simplify or how to find common denominators, please check out my Fraction Basics class: https://outschool.com/classes/fraction-basics-M24b6jxM?usid=vd23cb9z&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! I am excited to be here and can't wait to meet you all as you are signing up for my classes.
About Me:
I am a Texas teacher and am currently on my 3rd year teaching 6th grade math. My first two years were taught at a brick and mortar school and I am currently teaching online at a Texas virtual academy. I love teaching online and that is how I discovered Outschool. I believe that kids everywhere should have the opportunity to learn and to have access to affordable and educational classes. Online learning can be fun and beneficial, but I believe to get the most out of your classes you must be willing to ask questions.
Although I am currently a teacher, I did not originally start down the education path. I went to college at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and after a couple years, transferred to Texas Woman's University. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and minored in Human Resources Management. After working in the business world, I decided that the office environment wasn't for me, but realized that I loved training people. My real passion wasn't in business, but was in teaching. I went back to school for a short time to get certified in education, and here I am today!
Classes:
My classes will be taught on a variety of math concepts, including financial literacy. Financial literacy is one of my favorite math topics to teach, because the information is used frequently throughout everyone's life. The topics I will be teaching will range from fractions and decimals, to equations and inequalities. Most of my classes will be at the upper elementary and middle school levels. I also plan on offering business classes for high school students and technology classes for all ages. Understanding the basics of computers, Google products, and more can make online learning that much more exciting. Most classes will be offered in the evenings throughout the week with some occasional weekend classes being offered.
