Class experience
In this on-going course, students will learn about how the civil rights movement of the 1950s and '60s defined a generation. Students will be introduced to the lives and beliefs of, for example, a lawyer turned Supreme Court Justice (Thurgood Marshall), a preacher (Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.), a student (Barbara Johns), a baseball player (Jackie Robinson), and a group of students (The Little Rock Nine). For over twenty years, I have been working as a librarian teaching literacy classes to students from elementary school to college. For six years, I was a librarian for Prince George’s County Memorial Library System covering the Reference and Children’s sections. For over 10 years, I have been an adjunct full professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus teaching research paper writing and data analysis. For six years, I was teaching Developmental Reading to college freshmen at Prince George’s Community College. For two years, I was a library media specialist at Prince George’s County Public School System teaching narrative text by using the Dork Diaries book series.
