Beginner - Advanced Level
This weekly drop in class will focus on allowing narrative to unfold right from the pen--without thinking or planning too much beforehand. I will begin by giving a prompt designed to inspire creepy/ominous/scary stories. Independent writing will be timed at 20 minutes, and students will be encouraged to 'go with' whatever ideas come up as they write. I have taught creative writing of all kinds for two decades and counting. I have taught electives in horror writing and literature specifically and love to encourage students to explore their ideas in all forms.
Although this class will focus on fantasy horror (supernatural, magic) as opposed to violent or gory horror, there may be some material written that could cause discomfort to some students. If any student feels uncomfortable at any time, I encourage them to let me know and we will work together to come up with the best solution.
