This class aims to give students a detailed understanding of fossils, the fossil record, rocks and a variety of ancient creatures from dinosaurs to extinct invertebrates. Students will learn about extinction theories, fossil formation and the intricacies of the geologic column from the Cambrian to the Holocene. The materials include an interactive PowerPoint slideshow as well as a tour of a real fossil lab. At the end of class, students will get to work together in a rapid fire fossil quiz mini game. This class is best suited for dinosaur lovers between the ages of ten to fourteen and requires no former knowledge or experience.
Learning Goals
The goal for this class is that students will walk away with a detailed understanding of the geologic column, fossil formation and extinction. Students will also gain a broad perspective on the diversity of life through the ages on our planet.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Carnivorous dinosaurs and other animals will be presented in this class including some images of them feeding on other creatures. We will discuss death and extinction of animal species.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I received my degree major in Geology and earned a minor in Biology. While at college, I focused my study in paleontology and completed an honors thesis in Conodont Biostratigraphy. I have been teaching science topics such as Geology, Biology and Paleontology to small student groups out of my own classroom, using my own curriculums for over seven years.
