Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
This is the perfect class for animal lovers! We will be discussing predatory animals through an interactive Nearpod lesson. Throughout the lesson, students will be able to explore virtual animal habitats, discuss facts about each predator, participate in polls related to the predators, and draw their favorite predator on the screen, among other engaging activities! At the end of class, we will play "Who Would Win" to extend our predatory animal knowledge. This will be a fun, laid-back class for kids to explore and have fun onscreen, while also learning some interesting facts about different predatory animal species.

*** Students will need a second device (smartphone, tablet, second monitor or computer) or the ability to split-screen one device in order to view the Nearpod lesson. A link to the Nearpod lesson will be provided 30 minutes prior to class start time. ***

Learning Goals

Students will be taught about several predatory animals (Cheetahs, Jaguars, Fossas, Polar Bears, etc.)

Nearpod will be integrated throughout the lesson and discussion. (Parents will be given a link for their student prior to class, in order to join the Nearpod lesson) Students will pull Nearpod up on a second device or split screen one device.

Students will explore habitats of predatory animals.

Students will learn about various prey and hunting strategies.

Students will have the ability to interact with the myself and other students through polls as well as "draw-its" on various slides in Nearpod.

Students will play the game “Who Would Win” which is a fun creature match-up that will put their predator knowledge to work!

Students will have time to interact with peers about interesting related animal facts.

This is a laid-back class with a lot of student interaction and participation.

No prior knowledge needed, but students/parents will need to follow a link to the Nearpod lesson at the beginning of class and will need to have the ability to draw on the screen with either a mouse, mousepad, or touchscreen.

* Per Outschool’s policy, all siblings and co-learners must be enrolled in order to participate in class. If you need an extra spot opened in the course, please contact me about enrollment. Thank you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Jessica, and I am a Mom of two little boys (ages 9 & 12 ), a special needs educator, and a registered behavior technician. In my free time, I love to read, cook, and garden. I have degrees in both Social Work and Psychology. My specialty is special education and preschool education, although I have taught children ages 1-13 as well as adults! I absolutely love animals and the great outdoors, so many of my classes revolve around animals or nature in some way. It’s such a privilege to be able to share one of my passions with so many learners across the world! My goal is to provide a space for your children that will encourage learning in a fun and engaging manner! I love to integrate technology into a lot of my lessons so that students have a more interesting experience. This is also helpful for visual and kinesthetic learners who need more than just lecture-based instruction. I always encourage classroom participation, and I want all of my students to feel comfortable in the classroom and not be afraid to make mistakes; after all, that is how we learn! I do have experience with students with both ADHD and Autism, and I will be providing classes and support for ALL learners! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing your child in class!
