Promotional pricing through May 2021! Fantastic worlds. High Adventure. Daring-do! In the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, all of these start with the creative process of world-building. Brilliant and inventive minds will combine to develop the world of the Fallen Twins, a fractured, primal world surrounded by magical sky islands, traversed by skyships powered by steam, creatures, or the arcane weavings of sorcerous helmsperson! In this 4 part workshop, we’ll explore the basics of...
Learners will identify two specific real-world biomes and be able to explain the conditions of life in those biomes. Learners will be able to use their biomes knowledge to create a foundation for a fantasy representation of that environment. Learners will be able to identify an assortment of real animals that can live in that environment and create fantastic beasts that live in that environment based upon their knowledge of adaptive traits. Learners will be able to develop cooperative solutions to creation problems in a group setting.
6 files available upon enrollmentLearners will need copies of the provided PDF workbooks and sourcebooks, note paper, pencils, and if possible, polyhedral dice. These are the dice typical in role-playing games (RPGs) and include 20-sided, 12-sided, 10-sided, 8-sided, 6-sided, and 4 sided dice. If learners have creation accounts in D&D Beyond or Inkarnate, we can help with those but they are not required. The core sourcebooks for D&D are not required but can be helpful. The open license "system resource document" or SRD for D&D 5th Edition is available free online and includes many core rules.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Part of this class will be exploring the immersive role playing world of Dungeons & Dragons. Inherent in this game are fantasy battles where players represent powerful warriors, wizards, rogues, and more. They'll be rolling dice to represent fighting horrible monsters in between their role-playing improv and science learning. No actual swords and magical ability necessary.
We will refer to the core rulebooks for Dungeons & Dragons published by Wizards of the Coast, the online mapmaking engine Inkarnate, and the online player creation engine D&D Beyond. Depending upon the engagement level in the workshop, we may utilize our private Google Jamboard to help learners connect science concepts to mapmaking. Included in the workshop are PDFs from Project Imo that help learners engage in scientific exploration of world building. These include the Cartographer's Journal, Fallen Twins Field Guide, and assorted downloadable maps and player sheets. To help with research on biomes and habitats, learners will be asked to explore The Wild Classroom. https://thewildclassroom.com/ https://inkarnate.com/login/ https://www.dndbeyond.com/ You can preview our learning materials here https://projectimo.org/imo-on-outschool For more information on the basics of playing the world's most popular role-playing game, you can visit, https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/systems-reference-document-srd
