Eight Weeks, Eight Books - A Historical Fiction Book Club for Gifted Students!
Class experience
US Grade 5 - 6
Join us for a fun and informal book club where we meet every week to discuss a historical fiction book. Teaching conversationally, I will be fostering a love for books. Students in the class will be asked to think about what they read, form an opinion on what they read, and then share that opinion with others. We will also have fun rating and reviewing each book and comparing them to past reads. Students with a wide array of previous book club experiences are welcome. They only need to be...
Book clubs are a great way to teach students to form and share opinions with others which are an important skill to have as they get older. I run all book clubs so every student is able to answer questions that I pose and participate in the lively discussion. I am also aware that some students prefer to participate through chat than on a microphone. This is completely acceptable. My goal for the students is to get them to share their thoughts however they feel comfortable doing that.
I am an experienced educator who has been leading book clubs for over ten years. I have a love of literature that I share with my students. I am also experienced with students of all abilities and am patient and respectful towards everyone. I love nurturing a love of learning and reading in my students and feel that my enthusiasm rubs off onto my students which is a joy to see.

Historical fiction books deal with big issues including war, mistreatment of children, and other social issues. These books are age-appropriate but many deal with violence, racism, bullying, child abuse, and other traumatizing events. Please pre-read the books if you have any concerns.
All students will need to have access to the books we will be discussing.
