Dungeons & Dragons is a highly social and collaborative tabletop role-playing game where learners create unique characters and work together to build a story filled with drama, intrigue and adventure. This Part 1 introductory session is perfect for complete beginners to learn the basics of Dungeons & Dragons. Or equally suitable for experienced players who want to make a new character with the guidance of a teacher and with other learners to discuss ideas. Your learner will discover the different type of characters they can play, such as races (e.g Humans, Elves, Dwarfs), classes (e.g. Fighter, Wizard, Ranger) and personalities & back stories. Using this knowledge your learner will create a unique character with traits and characteristics to suit their style! Do they want to play a fierce dwarf who runs straight into battle, sword in one hand and shield in the other? Or maybe they are an elf with a love for nature, skills in archery and the ability to transform into a wolf or an eagle? Have they studied at a wizard academy and mastered the powers of spells and enchantments? Could they be a halfling spy hiding in the shadows and finding all types of secrets? By the end of this class, students will have created a Level 1 character to use in a game of Dungeons & Dragons. This character will be useable in any beginner adventure or campaign (such as The Lost Mine of Phandelver, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist or The Wild Beyond the Witchlight). They will also have the tools and understanding of how to create any future characters. Students will require access to a computer (or multiple tablet/phone/devices as it is not possible to manage both the zoom meeting and other websites on a single small screen). Alongside the Zoom meeting, we will be using the website D&D Beyond (https://www.dndbeyond.com/). This website has an age requirement for registration, so a parent or guardian should make an account for their child prior to the lesson to save time and prevent issues during the class.
