Throughout the adventure, characters will "level up" gaining new abilities and more health points. It will be the students responsibility to make sure their character is properly leveled whenever this happens. I am always available to help if needed, but please be sure all leveling up takes place before the start of next week's class. There is also a link in Materials to a YouTube video that gives a great overview on how to level up your character.Class Experience
"The Hunter’s Guild" is a society that has spread across all the lands, independent of any government beyond their own. Each major city across the continent has a Guild House dedicated to "The Hunter’s Guild" where people can come and commission quests and set bounties for the members of the Guild, specifically in monster hunting. You all have decided to go through the training necessary to become members of the Guild. You have studied the various species of animals, monsters, and creatures that plagued the region of Alchema, the city in which you have made your way to in order to fulfill this mission of yours. You have honed your combat skills and learned how to work as a team. Whether you came here in search of climbing the ranks, gaining fame, finding rare treasures, or simply to make a quick buck, the time has come for your graduation. Your mentor throughout this process, Brenir Guldin, a gold dragon born, has drafted a commission for your class and has ordered you to report to the town square. There have been rumors that the sewers have been clogged by an unknown creature, and it is your job to dispose of it. In this class, students will play through a short campaign that provides all the basics of Dungeons and Dragons, perfect for new players to learn the ropes and for veterans to play through a longer campaign. The class will be a normal Dungeons and Dragons session following 5th edition rules. I will be the Dungeon Master, in charge of rules and keeping the session fun! Students will have to work together to overcome obstacles set in their way in order to complete their quest and become fully graduated members of "The Hunter's Guild". Each class will be a continuation of the last, so consistent attendance is necessary. Of course life happens, but it will be the student's responsibility to watch the previous class and stay up to date with the adventure. With this in mind, please also triple check the scheduled dates for each class as depending on student requests and availability I may schedule all 4 sessions in 1 week or 2 sessions for 2 weeks and so on. As life does happen to all of us, I may need to cancel a session and reschedule. The rescheduled class will normally be a week after the originally scheduled last class. If for any reason I am unable to reschedule, then all students will be refunded for classes cancelled.
Learning Goals
Students will learn problem solving in a fun and supportive group setting.
Students will learn how to work with a team and co-operate with each other in order to achieve an end goal.
Students will learn how to express their creativity through their characters and the adventures they will have in D&D.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Dungeons and Dragons inherently includes fantasy violence. I will never encourage students to enact violence against other persons within the game settings.
Supply List
Students must have a pen and paper for notes throughout the campaign, a set of dice (1d4; 1d6; 1d8; 1d10; 1d100; 1d20) and a fifth edition character between levels 1-4. If you do not have dice, there are plenty of free apps you can use if you do not wish to buy a set. Otherwise, sets can be purchased easily through Amazon or comic book/board game stores. Students do not need to have a Player's Handbook though I do heavily recommend having one. It is also recommended that the student has a basic understanding of the game, but it is not required as I can teach them as we go along. If this is your child's first introduction to the game, then I would recommend at least reading the Basic Rules. I have also provided links to some free materials including the Essential Rule Book. If your student is not sure how to level up their character now that they have gotten experience from past adventures, then check out the YouTube video listed in the materials.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Sources
I may refer to the Player's Handbook throughout the course of the campaign.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional actor by trade, but in my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading plays, playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends, and now running D&D sessions on Outschool!
While my classes focus on the game, Dungeons & Dragons, there is a strong emphasis on community, support, and encouragement. Dungeons & Dragons is a great tool for students to explore their creativity, individuality, learn teamwork and problem solving skills. The goal of each of my classes is not just to have fun, but learn and practice these things in a supportive environment where all are welcome!
I have a variety of one time adventures, to multi-class stories, to on-going adventurers. We also offer courses on writing your own D&D adventures, painting miniatures for your D&D games and other tabletop games, and classes on being a Dungeon/Game Master for tabletop RPGs (TTRPGs).
