Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 8
In this class, I will work one-on-one with students to help them feel competent and confident of their ability to master their homework! We will work on several skills. One important skill we'll practice is organizing and prioritizing assignments. Another is breaking down large assignments into smaller tasks and knowing where to start. Finally, we will review any academic material the student is struggling with. Sometimes students with ADHD have trouble paying attention in a whole-class setting, and they miss instruction that they need to understand core concepts. Sometimes they just learn a little bit differently from the way the material is usually presented at school, and they need to see a concept presented a different way. Regardless, I will work with your children to make sure that they understand the concepts they're learning at school.

Please note that because this course can cover a variety of areas, from core academics to executive function skills, it is helpful if you or your child can let me know in advance where you feel that your child could use the most support prior to the first class. This is, of course, dynamic and changes with the child, and I will adapt my teaching to meet your child's needs. Discussing your initial concerns gives us a good starting point for the first session, though.
Learning Goals
In time, students should become better able to organize their own work and break down assignments into smaller tasks. They will also improve their mastery of the concepts they are learning at school.

Supply List
Some learners may require a calendar or schedule, but please wait to purchase this until I've met with your learner a few times. Children with ADHD frequently need very particular things from their schedules, and what, exactly they need often varies from student to student. I can't make a valid recommendation until I have met your child.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a teacher for fourteen years. During that time, the majority of my experience has been working in special education with students with a variety of special needs, including ADHD. I also have ADHD, and I know what works for me. I'm good at watching what works for my students, collecting strategies, and helping people try things until they find the strategy that is the right fit for them.
