Dance Me a Story: Coppelia

Class
Christie Vozniak
Average rating:5.0Number of reviews:(4)
Let’s practice our ballet fundamentals to the music and story of Coppelia!

Class experience

Beginners will be introduced to the basic positions of the body and basic ballet terms. Dancers with experience will be encouraged to work on technique appropriate for their age level (fully lengthening through knees/straight leg lines, stretching/pointing feet, proper alignment cues- head over shoulders over knees over toes, properly placed retire with big toe connected to the knee) as well as musicality and dynamics in their movement. They will also learn the story of Coppelia and introduced to music from the ballet and ways we can tell a story through our dancing! In this dance, we will work on chasses, hops in attitude and pointes!
Comfortable clothing for movement
A safe dance area
Water to stay hydrated
A love of dance and willingness to try!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class is a structured dance/movement class. For the safety of your young dancer, please make sure they are in a space safe to dance and move in (preferably one that allows your dancer to move forward and back as well as side to side by a couple of feet). Also, make sure to have water nearby to stay hydrated. Ballet attire is always encouraged but any clothing that instills confidence and freedom of movement for your dancer is welcome :)

Also, this class will occur over the Zoom platform. Zoom can be tricky when incorporating music, movement and speaking simultaneously, so I will talk a little bit before each exercise and then we will dance with just the music and minimal talking except for the occasional cue such as “Front!” “Side!” “Stretch!” to help each child follow along the combo!

It is also very helpful if I can see the dancer’s whole body (especially feet and smile) in the camera so I can give lots of encouragement and see their beautiful dancing!

I will teach the class using mirroring technique, which allows for the teacher to focus fully on the students through the screen while allowing the students to mimic my movements in real time. I will explain this to your dancer at the beginning of class, but they will follow along with me as if they were looking in a mirror and I was their reflection!
