US Grade 5 - 8
In this Strange History class we’ll dive into some truly strange history! We’ll learn about the Victorian’s fear of being buried alive and their answer to this dilemma, along with spirit photography like in the photo above, and Momento Mori jewelry. The term Momento Mori means “remember, you too will die”, and in the time before photography, family members would often use their deceased family member’s hair in pieces of jewelry to remember them by. It was also a grim reminder in a time where life expectancy was much shorter than today, that death could be lurking around the corner for you at any time. Come with us as we travel back in time and explore these truly creepy items! Class structure is a meet and greet time, followed by a PowerPoint class, ending with a Q&A. Class usually lasts around an hour, but can be longer depending on how many question there are and length of answer needed- but you’re welcome to leave then you need!
Learning Goals
They’ll learn about history in a fun way- and I’m sure they’ll want to research these topics on their own after class!
