Create Your Own Roman Menu
Class experience
In this class, we will look at the food the Romans used to eat and learn a bit more about the history of some of the ingredients in our pantry. We will go over the favourite food of the class participants, and then find out what the Romans would have made of it. After learning about different cooking methods and the daily routines around food in Roman times, students will work on designing their own Roman menu to cook later on at home. Students will get to ask questions about Roman lifestyle...
Students will learn the follwing: - What did the Romans eat? - How did people cook and preserve their food in Roman times? - How to cook your own Roman food at home, from snacks to a full meal!
For the class, learners will only need paper to take some notes for their food project. If the students could have their favourite food to hand to show the camera that would be great, but it is not essential.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There will be references to slavery and explanations about food that may seem unusual in some cultures, such as eating doormice, rabbits or snails.
