Beginner Level
Students will learn about the different kinds of Draw games in Chess--games that nobody wins, games that end in a tie. They will learn that a Draw game is due to either insufficient material to checkmate or by a Stalemate. The students will learn that they will receive a half point for a Draw game or a Stalemate. They will see different examples of Checkmates, Stalemates, and Draw games. A discussion will also be had about the student not resigning his games because his opponent may not know...
The students will learn the difference between a Checkmate, Draw game, and a Stalemate. They will understand that you receive one point for a Checkmate and a half point for a Draw or Stalemate.
Homework Offered
Students will receive chess puzzle homework sheets in a PDF format to be printed out. The chess puzzle homework sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand what to do.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle assignment and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home, with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.Grades Offered

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the student to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
