**This class is focused on English conversational skills and is intended for ESL students that have a basic understanding of the English language. Students should have a basic understanding of the 8 different parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection). and proper English sentence structure.** As an ESL teacher for 6 years and having taught almost 1,000 ESL students, I feel strongly that children learn a language best in an environment that feels natural, fun and engaging. In this weekly class, non-native English speakers will have fun practicing their English conversational, writing and listening skills by discussing different weekly themes. I will use pictures, questions and other prompts to generate fun, lively discussions and interactions. Each class will also have a short writing segment, where students will have the opportunity to practice their English writing skills. In each class: 1. I will provide a list of vocabulary words related to the weekly theme. 2. We will focus on the 8 different parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection) within our discussions. For example, I may ask students to look at a picture and identify 4 nouns or 2 adjectivies. 3. We will focus on correct sentence structure through supportive feedback and correction. 4. Students will practice English writing skills by responding to theme-related prompts. 5. Students will practice their English listening skills as they interact, respond and engage with other students. I strive to create classes that are highly engaging and interactive. I want my students to look forward to coming to class and learn while having a great time. I am also thoughtful to each individual student's comfort level in the class. I will gently encourage them to participate and work hard, but not at a level that feels uncomfortable or overwhelming.
