CLASS SYNOPSIS
In this one-on-one tutoring course, I will meet with your student once per week to assist them in comprehension and analysis of classic literature

OVERVIEW/DETAILS
    • One 55-minute meeting every week
    • Attentive, patient, one-on-one reading work with your student
    • This tutoring is perfect for any student who needs help with classic literature. This means that I can help by creating original curriculum (with writing), simple read-along guidance, analytical discussions, or assistance with their novel-related schoolwork!

EXAMPLES OF SKILLS I CAN HELP WITH
     • Nonfiction & fiction text (NOTE: my specialty is fiction)
     • Reading Comprehension
     • Reading Analysis
     • Assigned schoolwork (I can assist without providing the correct answer!)
     • Novels
     • Short Stories
     • Comprehension questions
     • Analysis questions
     • Author biography
     • Literary period
     • Historical influence
     • Intertextual analysis
     • Literary elements
     • Vocabulary
*NOTE* While I am trained, willing to prepare and research for, and even experienced in test-prep, it is not my specialty

TEACHING STYLE
    • Down-to-earth tutoring
    • I patiently persist with encouragement and support
    • I think creatively to present concepts in different ways until it is comprehended by your learner
    • While students will be challenged to think deeply, their perspective will always be encouraged and celebrated.
    • I hope that students feel as welcomed to think as they are challenged in their thinking.
    • I will read whatever your student is reading; after all, how can I truly understand an assignment if I haven't done it myself?

Reading Comprehension
Reading Analysis

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The majority of the classic novels listed are intended for adult audiences. • Murder, insanity, torture, survival, and death • Expletives, including racial slurs (note: these words will not be verbalized out-loud in class) • Depictions of social injustices including racism, misogyny, toxic-masculinity, and classism (note: these issues will be analyzed academically. Students will have an opportunity to verbalize their thoughts on these injustices and how they are dangerous to individuals and society) • Culture-specific stories and controversial topics will be included (everything ranging from Christmas stories, to stories with a feminist message. Specific religions will NOT be endorsed. With this in mind, individual student identities and cultures will be celebrated while the class-content will center on the academic facets of the texts) • Sexuality may be contained in the stories, however, explicit descriptions are not included. Sexuality may be discussed, but in a purely academic sense that is related to the text.
