2-4 hours per week. Read and retell the stories we have read during the class. Make and practice keywords and key sentences flashcards.
Assessment
The course will help learners to read aloud an entire picture book through 2-3 book instructed during the class, memorize 3-5 key phrases and sentences, retell the story through a direction or just a illustration.

Class Experience

The class will introduce about  40 Chinese picture books, highlight about 120 sentences,16 children's songs, and about 10 ancient poems. The instruction will cover the entirety of the vocabulary second graders' textbook used by Beijing’s elementary schools, plus the famous "Basic Chinese 500" book. The lessons include stories on Chinese folklore, idioms, and science stories. There are also wonder Picture books translated from other languages.The teaching contents will cover the following topics:

 I  prepared about 16 Chinese illustration children' books for this storytelling and retelling online course. All the teaching material will be offered with two editions: with Chinese Pinyin and without Chinese Pinyin. All these reading resources are chosen from the experiences of my 8-year K-12 teaching practice and Chinese Story Club of Arcadia Public library. I will gradually speed up students’ independent reading skills without Pinyin. The classroom typical activities should be repeating teacher-modeled prescribed stories dialogues, oral pattern practice, pronunciation drilling and practicing memorized dialogues in pairs. I will teach students with many interactive activities, focusing on key character recolonization and storytelling. My teaching style is trying to make every study content interesting, and I will use games and presentations from websites like traditional Chinese language training games, such as tongue twisters, paper folding, role play, etc. I usually concentrate on comprehensive input and make my teaching plans more focused on the effective connections between each lesson. There are storyretelling assignments for students every week as well. I am going to teach how to describe 2 main characters each week, I will help students to make flashcards for vocabulary memorizing and fun. All my students will learn how to build a habit to write a book report after listening and retelling a picture book. Meanwhile I will show some interesting traditional Chinese art, such as calligraphy, paper cutting, Beijing opera, tongue twisters to enrich students' background knowledge of Chinese customs and culture, etc. Students should follow my direction and finish reading and speaking assignments to improve their reading , speaking and writing skills. Students should be comfortable with all speaking and reading activities. 
There are also a breakdown week between every 6 lessons to give students a review and test.

“在秋天读冬天的故事“将使用大约16册中文绘本,所有教学材料将以带拼音和无拼音两种格式呈现,在频繁的交替阅读中逐步推动学生实现无拼音朗读和阅读。阅读词汇将涵盖人民教育出版社的小学语文二年级教材上下册,辅以《基础汉字500》卷三和卷四,按照听说读写四个基本语言训练的模式,向拥有600汉字基础的学生讲授绘本故事,导入基本词汇、日常用语,简单会话。通过多个有效切入角度的反复训练和练习,帮助和引导学生打下扎实的汉语阅读基础。我的教学目标是精讲多练100新字, 100新句,36个故事,10首儿歌以及古今诗歌。我的课堂在全面统领学生听、说、读能力的同时,侧重强调和培养学生敏锐准确的听力和流畅清楚的复述故事能力。教学中我采用很多种方法调动学生学习的主动性,除了直接的知识传授,我擅长在游戏和场景模拟等教学设计中带领学生进入有趣的陌生语言的语境,让语言学习活泼生动,充满乐趣。我的课堂还十分注重差异教学,我会在课程伊始为每个学生设定短期和长期目标,跟学生家长讨论决定长期目标,细化每一阶段的短期目标, 让每个学生明了自己的起点和目的,我也会全神贯注关心学生的点滴努力和进步,在教学中发现并鼓励努力上进的小孩。我的教学中还穿插有民间童谣和经典的诗歌美文,设计了“英译中翻翻乐 ” “很久很久以前。。。。。。”纸牌字卡游戏,大富翁词卡游戏以及卡通人物角色扮演等多种形式的课堂活动。

My name is Yuping Zeng. I am Chinese teacher .I live in LA.  I am a mother of two boys. I like watching movies, going to the beach, and hiking. In my spare time, I do craft and knitting and listen to music too.
My strengths are language teaching and short story writing. I taught Russian for 17 years. I taught Chinese to foreign students since 2003. I taught both English and Chinese in America. My students are a diverse group of people, with widely varying ages and skill levels. I have attention to detail. I am good at working along with others. I have a talent(facility) for language acquisition. I have a good instinct for learning and applying the language I have learned.

I loving teaching. I think that I should prepare very detailed for the input part of language teaching in order to encourage and lead students to output what they comprehend and learn through this training.
My students and I are always happy the rewrite the textbooks we have learned. It is a real blessing when we realize those materials exist just for improvement of our language proficiency.
