Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Class Description:

Welcome to Train with a Master! In this 1:1 lesson, you will learn the essential skills needed to play chess at a higher level and deeply analyze your games. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, playing a master with post-game feedback will give you deeper insights into many areas of your chess by practice against a stronger than normal opponent.

What will be taught?
In this lesson, we will play a game and analyze it fully, to give immediate feedback.

How is your class structured?
The class is as needed in a 45-minute window:

-Introductions/Goals (10 mins)
-Game (20 mins; 10 mins per side)
-Analysis and Questions (10 mins)
-Improvement Advice (5 mins)

How will you teach?
Teaching will be post-game with analysis of the moves, answering student questions, and providing advice to improve areas of their game.

Post-game analysis may include key concepts like phase theory (opening, middlegame, endgame), sports psychology, time management, decision-making, training regiment, and more.

What’s your teaching style?
I believe in a hands-on, student-centered approach where learners actively engage with the material. Chess is best learned by doing, so expect to bring your best chess in this lesson and I will do the same for you. I encourage questions, and my goal is to foster an environment of curiosity and growth. I balance explanations with plenty of opportunities for students to apply what they’ve learned right away, and have takeaway feedback to improve outside of lessons/classes.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
Interaction is a key element of this class. You will:

Play a high level game of chess with the coach
Participate in discussions about the chessboard
Think about your chess training and improvement areas
Have opportunities for one-on-one feedback during and after exercises
Receive Q&A time to clarify any questions
Receive homework suggestions and practical advice
